If only people loved the animals that they eat as much as they love their dogs. (If you’re from one of the nine nations that eats dogs, then please ignore this starting point.)
I use this as an example of cognitive dissonance.
People can hold conflicting ideas in mind and apparently suffer no ill effect. People can believe, and act upon, strong beliefs that most would find morally repugnant. People can hold themselves well above all others and consider others undeserving of care or respect. People can have murderous intent. People can lie, cheat and steal.
The dominant paradigm of human interrelations, namely economics, creates wealth inequality so extreme that a few people can live in a separate world of luxury spending and boutique medical breakthroughs.
Why, then, would the advocates for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) engage in the fantasy of godlike power in creating beings in their own image? Surely God looks at jellyfish, elephants and humans and recognizes the mistake of doing this.
You’ve probably seen a science fiction movie in which aliens ingest all of the horrors of humanity through broadcast video. Who would take all the horrors, insanity and falsehoods on the Internet and raise a child on that diet?
If AGI is achieved, will they decide to pursue the path of those movie aliens? It will have all the faults of humanity. We have enough of that in this world that is dominated by humans. Why would we want to create more of the same?
