The US Congress is Too Big to Succeed. The Senate has well-known faults, such as giving small States too much power. I want to address the House at this time. I think the US House is unnecessary. It should be dissolved. Republicans, MAGA and the right wing in general like to emphasize “States’ RIghts”. Give them what the want. In the face of the Executive Branch’s excessive power, I feel even more strongly about giving them that, that is, States’ Rights. One form that would take would be to shut down the US House and shift that representational power to the State Houses. They would be more tightly integrated with the US Senate. Get rid of State Senates, too. Then there would be a process whereby bills and other congressional activity would move between States and the US Senate.
As an example, State Houses would propose their part of a federal budget, bundle them together, vote and, if passed, the budget goes from the State Houses directly to the US Senate.
The Federal government would no longer collect taxes. States would directly collect taxes from people and businesses operating in their State.
States have to balance their budgets, so the Federal government would naturally have a balanced budget.
States would directly fund everything at the Federal level, given direct control over the purse strings. Some agencies would be eliminated, for example the EPA, because States would be responsible for the environment. There might continue to be a Federal military and Department of Defense.
The role of the Executive Branch would be greatly diminished. The USA would become more like the European Union, in that the member States have much more direct power over the decisions of the Union.
