“Woke” is an important epithet these days. I’m glad that MAGA has popularized it. Woke means that your mind has reached a level of consciousness such that you have become aware of the misfortune of others. You feel empathy towards those whom you see as mistreated, exploited, oppressed and abused by society. Elon Musk likes to talk about the “woke mind virus”. I think that having a woke mind is a good thing.
The opposite of woke is psychopathic. This medical term means much more than it used to because it encompasses what used to be called sociopathy. Psychopathy includes behavior that violates social norms.
People who are anti-woke are antisocial, they are psychopathic. They do not feel empathy or remorse. I think that this characterizes well the leaders of MAGA, for example Trump, Musk, and Bannon. They are the zoonotic pool of viruses that infect others. Most of MAGA are normal people who have been infected by the viruses that the MAGA leadership is happy to spread around (which is why they are anti-vax).
The Psychopathy Mind Virus persuades normal people to act like the psychopathic leaders of MAGA. They become anti-woke, ranting about imagined evils of DEI and Critical Race Theory. The are persuaded to ignore their own well-being, for example supporting diminished healthcare. For example, they are told that you are weak if you care about others and even care about yourself in any way that is perceived as harboring feelings of empathy.
Most of MAGA is not psychopathic, unlike their leadership. They are infected and emulate psychopathy as if it were a admirable trait of good people. Most of MAGA followers are normal people who fit into society and care about others. You can tell because they care about other MAGA people, whereas the MAGA leadership doesn’t care about the MAGA followers (which Trump has made clear). Normally, most MAGA followers would care about all people, but the Psychopathy Mind Virus is blocking their empathy for and awareness of most of society.
There is no cure for the Psychopathy Mind Virus. Once infected, it can hide in the body tissues, and can manifest at a later date. Symptoms can be treated, with the compassion and empathy that all members of society deserve. The goal is herd immunity. Help those you see who are infected in order to contain the primary disease vectors in a small population, isolated from the rest of humanity, institutionalized to protect humanity from infection.
