Saw a news spot tonight about public education. An “expert” was interviewed and explained that the financial catastrophe means that money must be taken away from public education, and it isn’t coming back. The conclusion of the piece was that US education must make do with less.
It already famously has so little! Teachers, who should be a prized part of our educational system, are famously underpaid. The results of our system are already showing poorly on the international stage. People worry that we will not compete after emerging from a faltering education.
So now we have media attention spotlighting people who think that further sacrificing our students is a good thing.
I would compare this to an incomparable glut of military welfare spending, of tax cuts for the rich, of bailouts for profiteering bankers, of huge bonuses, CEO plundering…
