I retired today! December 31, 2013
I sipped champagne. After all, it is also New Years Eve! I looked up a the high clouds passing overhead and thought about the wonder of the world, and the Universe. It has all reopened to me! When I was a kid, I thought about all of this and about the place I would have in the future in understanding it all. After working in the support of science for nearly 30 years, I see that the time has been largely wasted. There is a lot to tedious, mundane work in science, between the discoveries. But, in support, one is not even in the discovery, just the tedium, for someone else’s discovery. Now I can return to an earlier state of mind where it is all open to me again. The world is full of possibility, open to all.
